The Tilton 7.25″ OT-II metallic racing clutches are engineered for optimal performance in high-demand racing environments, including road racing, circle track, open wheel, and formula applications. These clutches are designed to offer a low moment-of-inertia, high torque capacity, and exceptional reliability, characteristics that make them a preferred choice in competitive racing scenarios. Usage outside of racing conditions, particularly on streets, is not advised.
The product is specifically designed for compatibility with step-type flywheels, characterized by a .100″ step that interfaces with the clutch's friction material. Consequently, clutches tailored for this type of flywheel exhibit a .100″ height differential between the base friction disc and the clutch cover legs, which serve as the mounting points. In contrast, pot-type flywheels, which lack this step, require clutches where the friction disc and clutch cover legs are flush.
Tilton offers this clutch with options for a High Ratio or Ultra-High Ratio pressure plate. The High Ratio variant provides a consistent clamp load across an extensive wear range, while the Ultra-High Ratio version enhances the clamp load by 20% and increases diaphragm spring travel for superior modulation. The High Ratio pressure plate maintains a stable clamp load up to .030″ (76mm) of wear, whereas the Ultra-High Ratio variant offers a higher initial clamp load with a more rapid wear progression.
